What to Bring on a Whitewater Rafting Trip

If you are planning your first whitewater rafting trip you are probably wondering what to wear.  The following will illustrate the steps you will need to take when deciding what to take on your next rafting adventure. First and foremost start digging into your closet to find your bathing suit. Seeing as you will be on a raft floating down a river I can assure you one thing about your rafting experience, you will get wet.  Furthermore, bathing suites tend to fit nicely underneath wetsuits and splash jackets.

When it comes to footwear, water shoes are the best. Other acceptable footwear includes old sneakers or some sort of strap on sandal like Chocos or Tevas. Crocs or flip flops are not acceptable footwear choices and they are likely to fall off your feet. For protection from the sun bring sunglasses with some sort of way to keep them on your head, sunscreen, and a hat. If you are worried about the cold I recommend wearing an Under Armour base layer along with the wetsuit or splash jacket provided. Other important things to remember to bring are:

  • Medications
  • Water
  • Clean clothes- Make sure to pack for various types of weather. Cotton is rotten!
  • Swimsuit/towel
  • Jacket- Going ziplining?
  • Snacks/food- Our Granite outpost offers chicken fajita lunches for purchase on site.

If you’re headed out on an overnight trip, there are a couple of extra decisions to make before embarking on your journey. Each passenger will be issued a dry bag for all of their personal belongings which allows for easy access to another change of clothes. Also, sleeping bags are available for rent but feel free to bring your own. All other camping supplies is included. And if you would like to bring any extra beverages, we will transport them to the campsite at your leisure.

Now you have all the info you need to dress like a hardened river pirate.
