Upper Eagle and Dowd Chute

Two steep mountain creeks meet to form the Upper Eagle: Gore Creek, cascading down from the flanks of Vail Mountain, and Homestake Creek, flowing through the inaccessible ghost mines of Gilman Gorge. Legendary Dowd Chute – a lengthy, complex Class IV/V rollercoaster rapid that can look intimidating at higher water – greets boaters almost immediately. After the chute, 10 miles of exciting Class III ensue, finishing up with the notorious Edwards Mile Rapids.
