Breckenridge, Colorado is the perfect vacation spot for celebrating America’s Independence Day. What better way to spend the 4th of July than with the variety of family friendly activities this Heart of the Rockies town has to offer. With the holiday falling on a Monday this year, spend the long weekend celebrating with all the events the town of Breckenridge will be hosting.
This year the weekend kicks off with the 33rd annual July Art Festival hosted from July 2-4 at Main Street Station. With free admission and a ranking as one of the top shows in the United States, the Art Festival is not an event you want to miss. After, be sure to sign yourself up for either the Independence Day 10K Trail Run or the Firecracker 50 Mountain Bike Race. These races are not for the faint of heart as they utilize the geographic features of Breckenridge Mountain to add challenge. Those wishing to spectate the races can cheer from Main Street and stick around for the kick off of the parade.
After the parade, kids can head over to the giant Kids’ Water Fight held by the fire department. Other free activities during the day include the Street Arts Festival—a collaboration of 3D murals, chalk drawings, and hands-on workshops. Free concerts will also take place at the River Walk Center on the afternoon of the 4th. Once the sun starts going down, be sure to get settled in for a performance by the National Repertory Orchestra and fireworks to follow.
