Thanksgiving in the Rockies
October 21st, 2016
Thanksgiving is not only a great opportunity to get some time off of work and spend a long weekend with the family, but it is also the perfect excuse to take a short vacation from home. Many tourist destinations offer Thanksgiving themed packages and events throughout the month of November. Take advantage of these once a year deals and discounts by spending Thanksgiving in the Rockies.
A great family-friendly “has it all” Colorado destination is the YMCA of the Rockies. Along with the recreational activities the YMCA has to offer, during Thanksgiving weekend they offer a Turkey Trot 5k run, flag football for the whole family and, of course, the famous Thanksgiving buffet. This year’s buffet will consist of a carving station, salad bar, hot bar complete with all the fixings and, last but not least, the dessert bar. After filling up your bellies, consider travelling to Idaho Springs for a zipline tour with Arkansas Valley Adventures. End the evening with a quick detour through Rocky Mountain National Park to see the last of the moving elk before winter kicks in.
You may also consider spending the weekend in beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado. Many local lodging facilities offer unique discount packages if you choose to stay the entire weekend. Several local restaurants will be offering an impeccable Thanksgiving feast. These include Blue River Bistro, Spencer’s, Hearthstone Restaurant and Quandary Grille. Breckenridge Ski Resort will also be in full swing by Thanksgiving so be sure to pack your skis and snowboards! After your day is complete and everyone is worn out, cozy up by the fireplace and watch football from the comfort of a Beaver Run Resort condo.
