Breckenridge Opening Day

This nearly 10,000 foot high mountain town is packed with plenty of culture and fun activities, so though it’s known for it’s incredible ski slopes there are some things that need to be brought to attention.  Here are 10 unique things about Breckenridge, Colorado that you may have not already known.

1) Crepes A La Cart

There’s always a line down the block at Crepes A La Cart on Main Street in Breckenridge.  Matter of fact, if there isn’t a line when you’re craving a crepe consider yourself one of the luckiest people in town.  We’re not lying… there’s always a line.  Take our word though, it’s worth it.

2) Dumb and Dumber

It’s something that is worth of being brought up every time when in conversation about this classic movie.  Instead of “a little place called Asssssspen”, it’s actually the town of Breckenridge, Colorado.  Yes, the movie was partially filmed in this lovely mountain town, and also at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.

3) 4 O’Clock Run

As many of you know, Breckenridge is famous for its awesome skiing. One cool part about this ski resort is the 4 O’Clock Run. This run takes you right into downtown Breckenridge with access to all the restaurants, bars, and shops the town has to offer. The ski resort is set high up on the Tenmile Range on the west side of the town of Breckenridge, so this not-so-little secret helps you skip the line for a gondola ride back to town and just cruise right along on your skis.

4) Mount Quandary

Head south just a little bit from Breckenridge and climb to the top of this popular 14,000+ foot peak.  A 14er is on most people’s bucket lists who live in or visit Colorado, and this one is a great one to get you started.  Fun Fact: If you’re willing to make the drive over Hoosier Pass, you can knock out FOUR 14ERS in one day.  Democrat, Bross, Cameron, and Lincoln make up part of the Mosquito Range and it’s a do-able one day excursion for someone who’s athletic.

5) Broken Compass Brewery

It’s one of our favorite spots in town and has a wide variety of choices for beer lovers of all kinds.  From Czech pilsners to their Chili Pepper Pale Ale, you can branch out and try something new at the Broken Compass Brewery off of Airport Road on the north side of Breckenridge.

6) Gold Pan Saloon

The rumor is it’s the longest running liquor license this side of the Mississippi.  It’s actually true, and the Gold Pan Saloon was founded in 1859.  This popular bar in town gets it’s name from Breckenridge’s rich history of mining.

7) Oxygen Bar

It may sound weird, but you’re at elevation in Breckenridge so it’s very easy for visitors to get lightheaded or not be able to catch their breath.  Don’t let this scare you from heading up the mountains, because you’d be missing out on the good things in life.  Instead, head to the O2 Lounge in town if you’re in need of a little more air in your lungs.

8) The Escape Room

Combatting the August afternoon showers in Breckenridge?  You’ve probably heard of an escape room before, and this mountain town is home to one.  The Escape Room is a great family or group activity where you can work together to get out of some tough situations.

9) Peaks Trail

Whether you’re a mountain biker or an avid hiker, Peaks Trail is a great option for you. Not only will you get more acquainted with the Tenmile Range that runs along the east side of Breckenridge, but you will get some great views of the valley below.  If you make it the whole 15 miles one way, you’ll find yourself in Frisco, Colorado!

10) Breckenridge Distillery

This place speaks for itself. If you’re looking for some of the best bourbon you’ll ever try or even a vodka that barely has a nose to it, take a tour of the distilling process and taste test a variety of their concoctions.  Side note, the Breckenridge Distillery is also one of the best high-end restaurants in the town.

Alright, you have plenty of things on your list to check out next time you’re in this area of Summit County.  Book your trip and even an adventure with Breckenridge Whitewater Rafting while you’re at it.  We’ll see you soon!
