Our Favorite Family-Friendly Class III Whitewater Rafting in Colorado

If you are planning a family vacation to Colorado this summer, one of the best adventures our beautiful state has to offer is whitewater rafting! Colorado is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and challenging rivers and creeks to raft on. Whitewater rafting is classified on a scale of I-V. Class I being easy to class V being extremely difficult. Class III is a perfect medium being moderately difficult, making it a perfect adventure for you and your family to enjoy. With three locations spread around the state, here are some family-friendly sections of whitewater AVA has to offer that will prove to be a thrill and a challenge.

Best Rafting Trips in Colorado | Breckenridge Whitewater Rafting

My personal favorite is the Arkansas river because of the beauty and wildlife you can witness. At our Buena Vista location Browns Canyon is an ideal class III rafting trip for you and your family. AVA offers anything from full day to overnight to rafting/zipline combos. Some adventures offer meals, accommodation, and camping gear. The minimum age varies based on water levels but is generally a minimum age of 7 years old.

If you are staying in Denver, Clear Creek is just a hop and a skip away, located 30-40 minutes from Denver proper in Idaho Spring, CO. Located in the heart of where the Colorado gold rush began, Idaho Springs is a great town to visit for its history and whitewater rafting. Clear Creek has three sections it offers from beginner to advanced. Our Gold Rush trip is a class II-III section that is perfect for beginners and families. For something more challenging try our Upper Clear Creek trip that is class III-IV. All our trips at our Idaho Springs locations can also be paired with ziplining to get the full Colorado summer experience.

Colorado Whitewater Rafting - Best Time To Go | Breckenridge Whitewater

Although it has a short season based on water levels, the Blue River is a great way to experience Colorado whitewater. If you are looking for a shorter adventure with time left to explore more of this breathtaking state, the Blue River is perfect. Located right outside of Breckenridge, this class III river excursion offers gorgeous scenery of the Rocky Mountains.

If you don’t know, now you know; Colorado offers some of the best whitewater you could ever imagine.
