Colorado Via Ferrata Tours: What is a Via Ferrata?
A Via Ferrata is a way to traverse across and up a cliff-face by waling across iron bars that have been inserted into the rock face. Via Ferrata is an Italian term that quite literally means ‘iron road’. The first came to be in the 19th century but are most famously known for their role in World War I when troops constructed them to help aid their movement through the Italian Dolomite mountain region. Nowadays, recreation-junkies can enjoy these climbing paths all over the world, including right here in Colorado.
Guests will move along a designated path of iron rungs and bridges to move across, and along the way they will be required to clip in and out of the cable to progress through the course. This is made possible through an advanced internal locking system in the carabiners. Each guest will have 2 carabiners connected to bungee-style lanyards on their harness. The internal locking system makes it impossible to clip out of both at the same time, insuring that climbers are connected to the cable of the course at all times.
