Breckenridge, Colorado is well know as the perfect mountain ski town for many reasons. What many may not be aware of is that Breckenridge is not just a seasonal town. With amazing activities available year round, there are so many reasons to visit Breckenridge in the month of May.

May is a very special month for us because it is the official start to whitewater rafting season! With the snow melting quickly, our rivers are starting to flow during May AVA Rafting groupand the river trips are excellent! You will experience excellent whitewater conditions, as the snow often melts quickly this time of year, and the rapids prove extremely exciting.

There are additionally a few other incentives to book a May rafting trip, including lower prices, less crowds, and great whitewater! Since many do not think of this month as a great time to come enjoy the river, you often get to raft on smaller trips with less people on the river. This creates a more intimate experience with your family.

With many of Summit County’s incredible trails starting to thaw after a long winter, May is the perfect month to hike. Many high mountain trails will be waiting for you of all difficulty levels. For an easy hike, check out the Mohawk Lakes trail! This low incline trail is perfect for the whole family.

For a little more excitement and even more elevation, the Mount Royal hike in Frisco is the perfect intermediate hike to test your abilities. The summit offers an incredible view! For those looking to tackle a 14’r, the Quandary peak trail is an excellent but difficult hike that will amaze those who concur it!

Did you think skiing was over for the season? Think again as there will still be beautiful spring skiing available into May at Breckenridge Resort  Just a short 20-30 minute drive from Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area  stays open until June with the longest ski season in Colorado. If visiting in May, you could even ski in the morning and bike in the afternoon! May is the perfect time for those multi-activity enthusiasts that want to participate in many great activities all in one trip!

In May, locals and tourists fill the restaurants and bars on Breckenridge’s Main Street, flocking to enjoy the warmer weather. Although there are no large festivals in May, there are many local events happening on a daily and weekly basis. Check out the calendar to see what is going on during your visit! Silverthorne also hosts its First Fridays events, highlighting local artists, musicians, and restaurants in a celebration of community on the first Friday of each month.
