What to Do This Father’s Day

This year’s Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 19th and represents a day everyone should be showing some serious appreciation for their pops.  Dad’s come in different sizes and shapes along with different interests and skill levels.  Any Dad, however, who finds himself in Colorado is one that probably loves the outdoors.  So spend a day outside with pops celebrating how lucky you are to have him in your life!

fly-fishing-925142_1280Go Fly Fishing: Nothing is more meditative and relaxing in the outdoors than casting a fly rod and concentrating all of your energy into catching that winner fish.  Grab a fishing license and bring your Dad to a sweet fishing spot with some beers for an afternoon or morning outside.  Never fly fished or want to improve your skills?  No problem.  Guided fly fishing tours are offered throughout the state to give you an edge on this challenging and fulfilling method of sport fishing.

Beer-Tasting: Breweries are scattered throughout the state of Colorado and some noteworthy mentions are Broken Compass in Breckenridge, Tommy Knocker in Idaho Springs, Eddyline in Buena Vista, and Storm Peak in Steamboat Springs.  Make a day of it and throw bags or darts with your loved ones while tasting all of the excellent alpine beers these quintessential Colorado breweries have to offer!

Golfing: Copper Mountain has one of the highest golf courses in the continental United States.  With a 69 par and a slope of 115, you’ll gaze at incredible views of the Ten Mile Range while you and your Dad battle it out on the golf course.  Maybe you’ll let him win?  Make your way to one of the many tasty restaurants found within Summit County as well!

Hiking & Hot Springs: For some more outside time, a trailhead can usually be found within 5 minutes of wherever you’re staying.  Whether you’re looking for something mellow so you can catch up with your Dad or want to push everyone to their limits, Colorado has it.  A long soak and massage at the hot springs will make anyone happy.  Noteworthy mentions are Cottonwood and Mount Princeton Hot Springs in Buena Vista, Strawberry Hot Springs in Steamboat, and Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs.
