20 Colorado Summer Activities for Families

Colorado has so much to offer in the outdoor industry for families. We could get your family rafting, climbing, biking, hiking, fishing, zip lining, horseback riding, hot air balloon rides, and via ferrata. The best part about Colorado is all the amazing views of the mountains all around you.

No matter where you are staying in Colorado there are plenty of activities for you and your family. Check out our list that is broken down by location. Don’t worry, a lot of these activities are accessible from many different locations in Colorado!

Breckenridge, Colorado:

Breckenridge is famous for its hiking, biking, rafting, and so much more!

For the beautiful town of Breckenridge there is so much your family can do.

Trails: In Breckenridge, there are hundreds of trails for visitors to hike or bike. No matter what level or what scenery you want to embark on, you will be able to find a trail that is perfect for your family! We love the AllTrails app to help us choose the best trail for any time of year and any level!

Rafting: The Blue River is a great river to raft if you do not want to go far from Breckenridge. It is just outside of Silverthorne which is less then 30 minutes from Breckenridge. Check out the 1/3 day rafting trip that is eligible for all guests ages 5+.

Breckenridge Mountain Summer Park (Epic Discovery): This is a great place to visit with kids as they offer mini golf, alpine side, mountain coaster, a scenic chair ride, hiking, and unbelievable views!

Buena Vista, Colorado:

Rafting, ziplining, via ferrata, horseback riding and more!

Buena Vista has the best view of the Collegiate Peaks!

Rafting: Buena Vista has so many rafting trips for ages 7+. Go rafting through the national monument, Browns Canyon, with your family.

Ziplining: Enjoy the views while flying high through the sky. This is not your run of the mill zipline course. It is filled with ziplines incorporated into the natural landscape, shorts, hikes, and fun obstacles.

Via Ferrata: Via Ferrata is an assisted mountain traverse that is great for kids 12+. Take away the danger of rock climbing and enjoy the thrills of working your way across the mountains!

Horseback Riding: Buena Vista can offer a truly authentic Colorado experience, especially when you explore it on horseback! Enjoy a trail ride through Mount Princeton and take in the views of the Collegiate Peaks!

Kremmling, Colorado:

Rafting, hot springs, off-roading, fishing, horseback riding and even more!

Kremmling Colorado is just outside of Silverthorne Colorado. Great drive to see wild life and Green Mountain Reservoir.

Rafting: This is such a great place to go rafting with young kids. Enjoy the scenery and a few tame rapids, and ensure your young children will have a great time on an Upper Colorado Rafting Trip in Kremmling!

Hot Springs: The best way to get to the hot springs with your family is through a rafting trip on the Upper Colorado. You can pull right up to it and warm up in the hot spring. Hiking to the hot springs can be a little more difficult.

Off Roading: Kremmling offers thousand of acres of trails that are best explored by a UTV. Pick up some lunch to-go, grab a UTV and enjoy a day with the family exploring Colorado and having a picnic in one of the most beautiful places we can think of!

Fishing: This is not just perfect for a father – son excursion, but we recommend for mother – daughter bonding or getting the whole family out to fish and learn a new skill and enjoy the beautiful Colorado River and the Gore Mountain Range.

Horseback Riding: Enjoy a family horseback ride or cattle drive through the Gore Range in Kremmling. These horseback rides are such a great way to spend your Colorado vacation and we recommend pairing them with a 1/2 day on the Colorado River for the perfect day!

Idaho Springs, Colorado:

Rafting, ziplining, via ferrata, and more!

Idahio Springs is just a short 30 minutes drive from Denver, and a perfect place to visit for a gold mine of adventure. This was the first stop on the gold mine and there are plenty of family friendly activities here!

Rafting: Try a family friendly rafting trip from Clear Creek Canyon for an unforgettable experience.

Ziplining: Such a great adventure for kids 7+ so explore the mountain side and zip through the trees in Colorado!

Via Ferrata: This adventure is great for kids 12+ and even though it includes ziplining it is a step up from ziping through the trees. You will also get to traverse the mountain side safely!

Keystone, Colorado:

Keystone is great for summer adventures!

Gondola Rides: The family can go take a scenic gondola ride to the top of Keystone Mountain. Where the Views are breath taking. You can see Breckenridge Ski area!

Biking: They have so many bike trails all around Keystone ranging from easy to challenging.

Shopping & Dining: The village at Keystone so much to offer as well for shopping to food. They also have Kidtopia. They always have events going on for kids all summer!

Vail, Colorado:

Golfing, hiking, rafting, biking, and more!

Golfing: Vail is one of the best places to go golfing in Colorado the views you get are so breath taking. The wild life you could encounter in that area is absolutely amazing.

Rafting: Rafting trips on the Eagle River are a great option for the family. This is a great stretch of river that allows ages 6+. Take in the beautiful Eagle River Valley!

Hiking & Biking: Vail Mountain also has mountain bike trails as well as great hiking trails and the entire family!

Shopping: Vail Village has all the shopping and food you could ask for!
