Breckenridge’s 2024 International Snow Sculpture Championships

Breckenridge, Colorado is once again preparing to transform into a frozen wonderland. And no, we don’t mean the mountain town’s usual energy as skiers and riders take to the slopes but the 2024 Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championshipsan event that pushes the boundaries of creativity and nature. One of Breckenridge’s best winter events, this annual competition draws sculptors and viewers from around the world.

Ice Sculptures

From January 22nd to January 31st, 2024, Main Street becomes an open-air gallery showcasing the incredible talents of international teams as they wield hand tools and sheer determination to sculpt icy behemoths into breathtaking art.  

Sculpting Week: 

Sculpting Week (January 22nd-26th) is about sculpture craftsmanship. Teams work for five days to sculpt detailed works of art out of 25-ton blocks of snow. See how a vision on paper translates into a physical masterpiece, layer by layer, chip by chip.  Breckenridge Ice Sculptures

The tension mounts as competition heats up, and teams race against the clock to bring their artistic dreams to life. 2024’s lineup represents teams from all over the world, including Germany, China, Mexico, South Korea, Lithuania, Ecuador, India, Mongolia, Breckenridge, and Wisconsin. 

The awards ceremony will take place Friday, January 26th, with awards for gold, silver, bronze, and artist’s choice. This event is free and open to the public. 

Viewing Week: 

Viewing week is January 26-31, where visitors can wander through the Riverwalk Center and appreciate the unique sculptures. Sculptures will be lit up at night, creating an optimal viewing experience. Visitors may also vote for their favorite sculptures in the people’s choice category! 

The energy is electric, with music filling the air and tempting food throughout downtown. During the awards ceremony especially, the town comes out to celebrate and cheer for their favorite teams.

Timed entries are required on Saturday, January 27th, and it is suggested that visitors plan their visit for after Saturday.
