Gore Canyon on the Colorado River
Departing Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays August 5 – Sept 5, 2016
Colorado’s ultimate challenge in commercial whitewater rafting is only for serious paddlers. Gore Canyon is well known among rafting enthusiasts as one of the most advanced river trips in the country. This remote canyon on the Colorado River has the steepest gradient drop—an astounding 120 feet a mile—with a vertical waterfall in the heart of the canyon. This trip is strictly for the adventurer. On this unique and remote trip, you’ll meet your guides at our Kremmling office, and then we’ll drive you out to the put-in for Gore Canyon.
Gore Canyon Rafting Trip Itinerary:
The first part of the trip is a scenic float through some spectacular mountain vistas. During this time you’ll get an in-depth safety and paddle talk from your guide as you prepare for the big rapids. At the mouth of the canyon, you’ll do a swim practice through a class III rapid, a flip drill, and work on getting back into the boat on your own.
Next we head into the canyon. We start by navigating through class IV-V rapids like Apple Sauce, Scissors, Ship Wreck, Pyrite, and several unnamed ones until we reach the top of Tunnel Falls. Here we’ll scout our run. Each boat will goes through one at a time and there is a safety set below the falls. The grand finale is called Kirshbaum, the longest and most technical rapid in Gore Canyon. We’ll then float out of the canyon where a late gourmet lunch will be waiting. Feast on the delicious food and share stories of your heart-pounding ride before driving back to the Kremmling office after your action-packed day.
Excellent physical condition is required for this trip. Availability is limited, depending on water flows. The season for this section of the Colorado generally runs late July through September and depends mostly on dam releases. Don’t miss the most challenging whitewater you can run commercially in Colorado! Lunch included. Minimum age 15 years. (BWR reserves the right to change age requirements depending on water levels and individual qualifications.)
All or part of this operation is conducted on Public Lands by AVA Rafting.
